Biopsy sampling

We obtain tissue samples from the gastrointestinal mucosa for histopathological analysis. This enables accurate diagnosis of chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), intestinal lymphoma, gastritis and ulcers, among other digestive wall pathologies.

Foreign body removal

We retrieve accidentally ingested objects — bones, toys, fabric, coins — lodged in the oesophagus or stomach. In most cases we completely avoid the need for surgery, with a much faster recovery for the animal.

Frequently asked questions

It is a technique that uses a high-definition flexible camera to directly visualise the inside of the gastrointestinal tract: oesophagus, stomach and small intestine. It enables both diagnosis — through biopsy sampling — and treatment, such as foreign body removal, without surgery.
It is recommended when the animal presents chronic vomiting, unexplained weight loss, persistent diarrhoea, digestive bleeding, or when ingestion of a foreign body is suspected. It is also the technique of choice for obtaining biopsies of the digestive mucosa to diagnose diseases such as intestinal lymphoma or inflammatory bowel disease.
Yes. Digestive endoscopy requires general anaesthesia to ensure patient immobility and comfort during the procedure. At VETECO we have state-of-the-art monitoring and anaesthesia equipment to maximise the safety of each patient.
Solid food fasting of at least 12 hours for adult dogs and 8 hours for cats is essential to ensure the digestive tract is empty and visibility is optimal.
