What is examined in a cervical ultrasound?

Cervical ultrasound allows us to visualise the soft structures of the neck: thyroid glands, parathyroid glands, salivary glands, cervical lymph nodes and other vascular structures.

Why is this test requested?

It is mainly recommended when a lump or mass is palpated in the animal's neck, when lymph nodes are swollen, or in geriatric cats in which feline hyperthyroidism is suspected, to evaluate the state of the thyroid gland.

Is sedation needed?

In the vast majority of cases it is not necessary. The patient is placed lying on its back with the neck extended for a few minutes.
