Thoracic ultrasound (or pulmonary/pleural ultrasound) uses sound waves to evaluate the thoracic cavity. Unlike X-rays, it allows us to detect small amounts of fluid, observe lung masses in contact with the chest wall and evaluate the mediastinum.
